Why This Training Matters?

Follow the Law

You must follow food safety laws and understand how they affect your daily work.

What Is Natasha’s Law?
The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019-known as Natasha’s Law-came into effect on 1st October 2021. It was named after Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, a teenager who died from an allergic reaction to an undeclared ingredient in a pre-packed meal.

What the Law Requires
If your business sells PPDS (Prepacked for Direct Sale) food, you must clearly list all ingredients, with allergens clearly marked-using bold text, italics or a different colour. This applies to England. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to adopt similar rules.

New Rule: Labeling for Prepacked Foods Sold Directly to Customers.

After regulation 5, add the following:

Regulation 5A – Ingredient Labeling Duty
(1) If a food business sells food that falls under this rule, it must clearly show the full list of ingredients. This must appear directly on the package or on a label attached to it.

This rule comes from The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019.
